The Wales Council for Deaf People is led by a board of trustees elected from our member organisations. We invite organisations working with or interested in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to join us.
For more information or to become a member, please contact us.

OUR AMBASSADORS

Our WCDP Ambassadors play a vital role in raising awareness about the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, advocating for their rights, building connections with other organisations, and volunteering their time and skills to support our initiatives.

Layla Karnes

I was born in California in 2005 to British-American parents. I spent many holidays with my grandparents in Bedfordshire roaming their farm.

I started figure skating at the age of 3 and transitioned to ice dance when I was 8. When I was 11, I watched my first Deaf dancer perform and was left speechless - inspired to better understand the Deaf culture and language.

I studied American Sign Language through High School and completed two years at university. I first represented Great Britain in 2023 and started learning British Sign Language to better connect and advocate for British Deaf skaters.

I have volunteered with Deaf youth interests in sports and hope to work with Deaf athletes at a national and international level.
